10 Instant Energy Boosters!

Written on November 3rd, 2009 by Johnno shouts

energy boosterWhen you wake up in the morning, you probably have already got your morning jog in, had a healthy breakfast, fixed your family a healthy breakfast and just waiting for your little ones to wake up to get them ready for school….right?  Nah I didn’t think so!  In the real world, it’s hard to be motivated to even get out of bed, much less get the kids ready and to the bus on time and then get yourself ready and to work work on time…right? Right!

But there are ways to help save energy and  boost energy other than the usual basics like eat healthy, exercise, and get plenty of sleep.  Here are 11 ways to instantly boost your energy!

1. Don’t skip meals. Especially breakfast!  Everytime you skip a meal, your body is starved and your blood sugar stays too low for too long.  Once your blood sugar is low, you feel fatigued and can’t think straight.  You then might start craving coffee or other quit fixes which only cause more ups and downs.  The best solution is to at least have a healthy snack every 3 hours to keep your blood sugar stable and your mind clear.

2.  Pack away more Protein. Protein helps stabilize your blood sugar which will help you not get so fatigued or have any slumps through out the day.  When you eat the right amount of protein your body needs, it stimulates the neurotransmitter dopamine which will help you stay alert through out the day.

3.  Drink a lot. Drinking plenty of water all day helps your cells stay hydrated and work to their full potential.  One cup of coffee in the morning is okay as well as one iced tea in the afternoon.  Also, a study shows that if you sip caffeine a little though out the day, this should not interfere with your natural sleep/awake cycle.

4.  Reward Yourself. As a mom we all try our very best to always take care of our families and make sure they have everything they need.  Sometimes it best to stop and remember that the best thing for your kids is to take are of their mom too!  Always be sure to reward yourself with time for yourself.  That way you can be 100% for them and still take time for your needs as well.

5.  Aim low. Take your standards down just a notch.  Not suggesting you compromise on health or welfare, but when it comes to perfectionism.  Perfectionism is an energy-suck and so is the disappointment you get when you feel like you’ve failed.  Try not to worry so much about a sparkling clean house or a perfect kid.  Take it one step at a time and don’t sweat the small stuff.

6.  Buy Bins. It is amazing how much time you can save if you organize the things you use the most.  Buy rubbermaid containers, bins, baskets, etc.  Slowly organize the every day shuffle and you will be amazed how much energy you save just by being organized vs. in a panic at the last minute trying to find crayons for homework or your child’s gloves because it’s cold out!

7.  Let dad do it wrong. Sometimes if you let your husband help with some of the load, it will take some load off of you.  He may not be able to do it just as perfect as you but this will help you not get as stressed and over-worked.  The duties will get done a lot faster and then that will lead to more family fun time for all.

8.Hang out with the girls! Sometimes the best way the best way to regain your energy is to get away, let daddy watch the kids, and just get away!  Go out to lunch or catch a movie.  Have fun just being you with your friends.  You’ll come back feeling less stress and ready to go another round!

9.  Show your lobes some love. According to Chinese medicine, when you stimulate your lobes, it’s like a wake-up call for the rest of your organs.  This is also supposed to redirect your energy upward to your head which is a good way to perk up.  When you feel fatigued, usually you feel like your energy is going downward.  So give your whole ear lobe a soft, one minute rub down.

10.  Lock yourself in your car. You may some crazy looks in the school parking lot but who cares.  Lock yourself in your car, turn off the radio, and yes…your cell phone too!  Don’t just put your cell phone on vibrate, turn it off.  Concentrate on your steering wheel and erase any thoughts you may have.  This is also considered meditation.  Spend five minutes just concentrating, take deep breaths, and no stressful worries.  You will feel much better and just might have a better drive to work, even without the road rage!

Gyrotonics- newest exercise phenomenon

Written on October 27th, 2009 by Johnno shouts

Americans are always on the lookout for the newest, greatest workout program. Much like yoga or tai chi, this may just reduce your stress and your waistline- doesn’t get much better than that, eh?

Think of it as yoga with resistance training and reps and you’ve got the basic idea of gyrotonics. As with any workout program, don’t expect a sweat session or instant results…but expect to see flexibility increase and to become more aware of your body.

Would you pay for a gyrotonics class or stick to the traditional gym workout and maybe some yoga and meditation later at home? Or is gyrotonics really the perfect combination?
