Is Oprah ending her show really that big of a deal?

oprah

I swear, it was all over the news today. It was ‘breaking news’ on Twitter and top headlines on national news. It’s either a really slow news day or people are treating this like a national tragedy. Or both.

I get it. Oprah has been on TV forever and it’s hard to say goodbye to people you get used to always seeing on TV. But shows end. That’s just what they do. And, yes, I understand all the good that Oprah does because of the fame she gained through her TV show. I’m not denying that.

But, seriously, it’s not ending until 2011. Maybe if it was ending in 2012, it could coincide with the people saying that’s when the world will end. But anyways, you have plenty of time to mourn. And I’m sure Oprah will make sure you all have plenty of time to tell her how amazing she is. Like she would really go quietly (thus all the commotion today).

No Sympathy for Kate Gosselin

Oh, boo hoo to Kate Gosselin. Your kids are sad you’re not filming anymore? Of course they are- they’re old enough to know that means no more free trips. I’d be sad, too.

Suck it up and be a MOM and stop worrying about your precious TV show. If you’re saying your kids are suffering, that’s probably because you suck and you’re so worried about being a drama queen that you’re ignoring them.

Maybe you need a publicity stunt. The kids can pretend to fly away in your overflated head.

Trade & Recyle your ipod, old TV, etc

recycleI like the idea of this. But, as with most things, it’s all theoretical. If what you have is truly just “lying around”, you might as well get a few bucks out of it. But I bet you could get more if you went through other means. Have you seen how well cell phones cell on Craigslist? It’s crazy. I sold a Helio Ocean that was 2 years old for 50 bucks and the person drove over an hour to come pick it up. Uhm, hello, that’s pretty sweet.

And I can’t imagine that SHIPPING a TV is going to be profitable. If it doesn’t work, find a local place to recycle it. If it DOES work, why not find a charity that will take it? I’m sure there are plenty of places, even families, that would be glad to take it off your hands. To me, it would be better to know it’s going to a good place, rather than just trying to make some extra money.
